Peyman Banooni, M.D.

Dr. Peyman Banooni practices obstetrics, gynecology, infertility, and pelvic surgery in Beverly Hills, California. Currently in private practice, he specializes in general and high-risk pregnancies, including advanced maternal age. He emphasizes minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, for treatment of common gynecologic disorders including ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and abnormal bleeding. He is also up-to-date on advances in the study of menopause and controversies about hormone replacement therapy. His other areas of interest include female osteoporosis, adolescent gynecology, and contraceptive technologies.

Dr. Banooni obtained a degree of Bachelor of Science degree in biology with an emphasis in molecular biology, from University of California, Los Angeles, graduating with summa cum laude honors. While at University of California, San Diego, he received his medical degree. He later completed a residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles where he remains involved in the teaching of ob/gyn residents. Dr. Banooni has been recognized by his peers as a leader in the department of ob/gyn performance improvement committee.  As a member of the medical executive committee at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, he is also among the top leaders of the institution.

During his academic career, Dr. Banooni has been involved in research and teaching in multiple areas of medicine. At the UCLA AIDS institute, he spent three years on HIV research studying the molecular aspects of transmission of the virus. At the University of Southern California, his research interest was minimally invasive surgery for the staging of pancreatic cancer. In the area of high-risk obstetrics, he has studied risk factors, prenatal diagnosis, and outcomes of fetuses with gastroschisis. More recently, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, he has investigated the controversial management of monoamniotic twins. Currently, Dr. Banooni is involved in clinical research for the development of new pharmaceuticals for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, menopause, and osteoporosis.

Dr. Banooni has been published in prestigious medical journals such as the Journal of Virology and the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA), and has several publications currently under review. A frequent speaker, he has given presentations on subjects including minimally invasive surgery, twin pregnancies, menopause and hormone replacement therapy, and HIV tropism.

He has won multiple awards during his career including an Achievement Award from the Society of Laproendoscopic Surgeons for excellence in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Banooni also has been recognized by other national organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation, the American Medical Association, and the Betty Ford Center.

Dr. Banooni, his wife and three children live in Los Angeles where they enjoy multiple outdoor activities.
