Matthew A. Torrington, M.D.

Matthew A. Torrington, M.D., is a board certified Family Medicine physician with a specialty in Addiction Medicine. Having completed a two year fellowship at UCLA's Integrated Substance Abuse Programs, he is also a Clinical Research physician. Dr. Torrington is boarded by the American Board of Addiction Medicine and certified by both the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Academy of Pain Management. In addition to his clinical research activities, he is licensed to practice in the states of California and Idaho and is involved in residential and outpatient treatment of substance abuse disorders. Dr. Torrington has a clinical focus on the treatment of stimulant dependence, alcohol dependence, opiate dependence, and pain.

Having dedicated his professional life to helping those suffering from substance dependence, Dr. Torrington is actively involved in clinical research, community outreach and clinical practice. Since 2002, Dr. Torrington has worked as a clinical research physician with the Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP), which is considered one of the foremost substance abuse research groups in the world. Dr. Torrington hasserved on numerous research studies as a principle investigator, co-investigator, study physician or Institutional Board reviewer.

Actively serving the community by providing care to those without financial means, Dr. Torrington believes that health care is a right not a privilege and runs a small free clinic.  He serves as a board member for the addiction treatment not for profit organizations End Dependence and Walking Miracles. Dr. Torrington serves on the Common Ground Westside (CGW) board of advisors and he is the medical director of the CGW needle exchange program, naloxone over dose prevention project and HIV/Hep C testing program.

Dr. Torrington maintains a private practice specializing in the longitudinal disease management of patients with substance use disorders and pain. Dr. Torrington utilizes a variety of novel and evidence-based techniques to help his patients achieve their goals, while also embracing the patient centered care model. His method helps individuals assemble and implement the appropriate combinations of biological, psychological, social, spiritual and nutritional interventions needed to help them achieve their goals.
