From the time he was 10-years-old, Dr. Jay Grossman knew he wanted to be a dentist. He liked the idea of helping other people and saw, through his dentist who was a family friend, that dentistry was the perfect career to make that happen. His excellence in undergraduate school and his passionate enthusiasm for dentistry led to his acceptance at the age of 19 to New York University College of Dentistry.
At 24, Dr. Grossman moved with his wife and new baby to Santa Monica, CA. The Navy seemed like a dynamic venue that would afford him a plethora of experiences, so he enlisted. After completing a tour of duty as a Lieutenant in the Dental Corp, and receiving the National Defense Service Medal, he was written up in major magazines as the poster boy for recruitment due to his non-profit Homeless Not Toothless. He has received letters of commendation from President Obama, the Secretary of the Navy and numerous members of Congress. Since 1991 he started his own practice in Brentwood, California and has been practicing there ever since, with over 15,000 patients in his practice. As a dental expert, he has been involved in over 1,000 dental malpractice, peer review and injury cases. He has published and have been written about in print, radio, and TV over 285 times. Licensed in 42 states to opine on standard of care as an expert witness.
In 1991, he hung his shingle in Brentwood, California and has been there ever since, known to his loyal patients as “Dr. J.”
Now, an expert in cosmetic and comprehensive dentistry, ranging from the prevention and treatment of cavities to the creation of porcelain crowns, Dr. Grossman incorporates the latest dental diagnostic equipment in his practice. He is committed to combining high technology with a superior level of customer service in his practice, and is especially sensitive of his patients’ needs, including those with dental phobias. One of only a few dentists in town with a dental laser, that can remove a cavity painlessly – without the need for a dental shot!
As a dentist active on the national stage, Dr. Grossman maintains several licenses: the Northeast, Nevada, New Mexico and California. His professional affiliations include the Peer Review Committee for the American Dental Association in West Los Angeles, the Peer Review committee for Delta Dental, and membership with the American Dental Association, California Dental Association and the Western Los Angeles Dental Society.
He is a current Professor at UCLA School of Dentistry (1995-present), NYU College of Dentistry. Founder of the non-profit “Homeless Not Toothless” (www.homelessnottoothless.org), he has made it possible for 124,000 thousand homeless Veterans, Victims of domestic abuse and foster children to receive over $10 million in pro-bono dental care since its inception in 1992.
Personally, he got his black belt at the age of 45, lives in Malibu with his wife, and has 9 children!
